To all People to whome [sic] these Presents shall come I Moses Norman of Beech Hill in Colleton County in South Carolina Planter Send this Greeting

Know ye that I the said Moses Norman for and in Consideration of the Sum of One Hundred Pounds [£100] to him in hand before the Ensealing & Delivery of these Presents well & truly Paid by James Martin of the County & Province aforesaid Planter the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge & of every Part & Parcel thereof Doth Acquit Exonerate & Discharge The Sd [said] James Martin and His Heirs Executrs [Executors] & administratrs [administrators] Hath given, granted, Bargained, Sold, aliened, Enfeofed [sic] & Confirmed and by these Presents Doth Fully Freely Clearly & absolutely Give Grant Bargain Aliene [sic] Enfeof [sic] & Confirm unto the said Jeams [sic] Martin & his Heirs Executrs administratrs and assigns, A Tract of Land containing Seven Hundd [Hundred] Thirty Five [735] acres Lying & being in Colleton County in the Province aforesaid, & Buting [sic] & Bounding on the East Side of Salcacha [probably “Salkehatchie”] River; to the Westward on the Sd River; to the Southward on Mr. Thos [Thomas] Miles Land and all other Sides on Land not Laid out:

In Witness whereof the said Moses Norman hath Set hereunto his Hand & Seal this Twelfth Day of August in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred & forty [12 Aug 1740] and in the fourteenth year of the Reign of our Soveraign [sic] Lord George the Second by the Grace of God King of Great Britain France & Ireland Defender of the Faith . . . . . . . .

N. B. of words (only) in Sevententh [sic] Line & (Moses Norman) in nineteenth Line were interlined before Sealing & Delivery

April 16th 1742 [16 Apr 1742]. Before me Personally apeared [sic] William Chamberline one of the Subscribing Witnesses who on Oath Sayeth That he saw Moses Norman Sign Seale [sic] & as his Act & Deed deliver this Instrument of Writing to & for the the [sic] uses therein mentioned Intended & Expresst [sic] and that the words, only, and Moses Norman were Interlined in the presence of Joseph Norman & Samuel Stevens who subscribed their names as Witnesses.
