John Steavens, Abstract Of Land Grant For unknown Acres In Berkley County, 08 Sep 1697

John Steavens [sic: probably “Stevens”] had a Grant out of the Secretary's Office for «blank space» Situate and lying in Berkley County at the head of Ashley River butting and bounding «blank space» and South Eastward on the lands of the Lord Ashly commonly called St. Giles, to the «blank space» on land of Mr. Roase [possibly misspelling of “Rose”], to the North and North Eastward on the lands of Mr. Wm. [William] Norman «blank space» Waring and to the Northeast and South West on lands not yet laid out being purchased of and from the Lords Proprietors as by the Receipt of their Receivor after the rate of Twenty Pounds [£20] p [per] thousand acres of land paying yearly and every year on every first day of December which shall be after the first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred ninety and seven [01 Dec 1697], the sum of ten shillings Current money

the said Grant is dated the Eighth day of September 1697 [08 Sep 1697] and signed by Joseph Blake Esqr. [Esquire] Governor, Joseph Morton, James Moore, Thomas Cary, William Hawett ~ Deputies
