Will of John Spencer, St. Bartholomew's Parish SC, 11 Feb 1736

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN this Eleventh Day of February in ye year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and thirty Six [11 Feb 1736] That I John Spencer of St Bartholomews am very sick & weak of Body but of Perfect mind & memory thanks to Almighty God therefore Calling to mind ye Mortality of my Body & Knowing it is appointed To all men once to Dye [sic]

Principally & first of all I Recommend my Soul to Almighty God my Saviour & Redeemer & my body I Recommend to the Earth from whence it came nothing Doubting but I shall receive the same by the Power of God & Touching Such Worldly Estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I Leave and bequeath as followeth.

My will is that all my Debts which I Lawfully Owe may be paid As Imprimis

IMPRIMIS I Leave and Bequeath unto my beloved Brother Richard Spencer five hundred [500] Acres of Land upon Combea River as also Six Negro Men for him to injoy [sic] at my deces [sic: decease] with all my Debts that is due unto me.

Item I leave and bequeath unto my Dear Father Anthony Spencer & Barake Noreman Junr [Barak Norman Jr.] five hundred Acres of Land in Pon Pon

Item I Leave and bequeath unto the said Barake [Barak] Norman two Negros One boy and one woman Named Hexoreco[?] & Pegg

ITEM I bequeath unto my dear father Anthony Spencer aforesaid two Negros named Sambo & Samson

Item I bequeath unto my beloved Brother Richard Spencer aforesaid all my Horses and Hoggs with all my Carpenters tooles [sic]

Item I apoint [sic] and Ordain My beloved Father Anthony Spencer Rd [Richard] Spencer & Barake Noreman Senr [Barak Norman Sr.] Exors [Executors] of this my Last will and Testament & I revoke & Disanul [sic] all other wills & Testaments

In Witness whereof I fix my hand & Seal the day & Year Above mentioned. ---------

Personally appeared Before Me Thos [Thomas] Sillavant & Geo: [George] Barnett and md. [made] Oathe on the holy Evangelists that they Saw John Spencer Sign Seal and Deliver his Last will WILL [sic: repeated] and Testament & that they Saw Mrs Singilton [sic: Singleton] Sign as one of the witnesses.

Given under my hand & Seal this 1st Day of July 1737 [01 Jul 1737]
